Looks like I am calling the cricket better at the moment. Update to follow with all of the others.
Just thought I would let you know had a go with David Carter in the European Golf. Will try to lay off at some point later but we'll see how he goes. Just think he is a nice price seeing as though he is the only one in the Top 8 who has actually won a tournament, even if it was 9 years ago ;-)
Full update later time permitting.

Apologies
Sorry for the lack of updates at the moment, but things are a bit hectic.
Yesterday was not a great day either, reckon I am losing for the month now.
Family due back any time, can't wait - really missed them this week.
One bet today, laying England in the ODI against India, I think their price is far too short.
I'll try to catch up with P&L's tomorrow morning.
Good Luck if you have a bet today.

Back in profit
Good day yesterday.
Horses went well, and the cricket, for once, went well too.
Highlight of the horses was undeniably Authorized. Very pleased that we have finally got a superstar Derby winner after a few years of mediocrity. Few people after the race were saying Dylan Thomas was unlucky, don't see that myself, think Authorized won the race on merit. Great to see the obvious joy and excitement on the faces of Dettori and Chapple-Hyam after the race.
In the cricket, never really too much doubt about the outcome to be honest in my book. Didn't think India were ever going to chase down close to 300 under lights, so just let the bet ride without laying off.
Today will be spent trying not to give the profit back, but mainly concentrating on the horses. May have a look at the football later, but I know the only bet I am likely to have in that will be on England and that is dangerous in these type of games.
Will try to post a few fancies for York later on.
Good Luck.

Tuesday
Bad day yesterday, family left for a break until Friday and not much work on at the moment. A dangerous combination. Too much time for me to play.
About time I had a bad day on the horses, and yesterday was the day, couldn't pick my nose and then started chasing - got to get out of that mentality now. Even had a few bets on the US Racing, not something I will be repeating.
Updated about the Cricket yesterday. I need to stop jumping in with both feet, when I think I see an opportunity - because the way the cricket is going for me at the moment, the odds are there is no opportunity there in the first place.
This has now wiped out all of the profit I made in the early part of the month. Need to get my disciplined, selective head back on starting from today.
Another dangerous day ahead, York races and England v India ODI. I will be trying to put myself back in to profit for the month.
Still mulling over the money management side of things, and when I have ironed everthing out will dedicate a post to it. Initial thoughts are that I am overstaking in an attempt to hit the £25k profit target. I am thinking of reducing my maximum liability per event to £200 and also reducing my profit target to £1000 per month. This does not mean I will be staking £200 on every event, just that this will be my maximum loss.
I am forunate to have built up a fairly decent betting pot, but that does not mean I have to throw it all away.
In fact for now these are going to be my new money management rules. Let me know what you think.

The Weekend
Ok, sorry for the rant yesterday, calmed down a bit now. Still think Stiles is a pratt but there you go it happens.
Apologies for the lack of updates over the weekend, but with the family off for a week's break, been trying to concentrate on them.
Was offered a ticket for the Reading v Everton game on Saturday but didn't go as thought it would be unfair to take the time out.
Had a decent day Saturday on the horses as you will see below. However made some huge mistakes on other sports:
Cricket was a disaster (Laid Durham at the change of innings only to see 2 hampshire wickets fall in 2 balls at the start of their reply), Soccer wasn't great (Really fancied Newcastle to beat Villa), Rugby Union was just plain stupid (Fancied England to beat France for some reason, blind patriotic faith is all I can put this one down to)
Sunday was different to Saturday, as it was just a disaster with no help from the horses.
As you already know I had backed Dyson in the golf and decided to weigh in with Kaymer to try to get my loss back. Went well for much of the day and did manage to lay off both my stakes prior to Kaymer throwing it away.
Loss from the cricket came through to the P&L after it was rolled over from Saturday.
Soccer I have already covered yesterday. Started with a back of Liverpool, going well and had laid my stake back when they went in front. Chelsea then get a 'Penalty' and equalise. So I laid the draw for my original stake as I thought there would be a winner. What a dick. Lesson to be learnt here never gamble on your own team.
So miffed by the end of this decided to lump on Billy Mayfair in the US Golf. Close but no cigar.
In the cold light of day, I can see what a pratt I have been this weekend, and will post later on the new money management limits I am going to put in place going forward. I allowed myself to slip out of the new discipline I had picked up, and revert to my scattergun appproach which patently doesn't work when the gambling gods are against you.
I am extremely fortunate to still be in profit for the month.

Chasing
Yes I am chasing. Yes I am Livid.
Had a good few quid on Billy Mayfair in the US Golf. Tomorrow's update is not going to be pretty.
Good Luck everyone except Mourinho and his moaning, bleating, lucky team.
If Rob Stiles gets out of the ground to find his hub caps removed and his car sitting on bricks so much the better............... Wa*ker.

Update
If you hadn't already guessed I am a Liverpool fan.
Yes, I am talking through my pocket, but that was a f**king disgrace.
If I see Rob Stiles in the next lifetime I am going to tell him exactly what I think of him.
Times like these money is not important, but that was shocking.
If you are a Chelsea fan, I hope that cost you a good few quid to have the 12th man on your side.
Sanity to be restored tomorrow on the blog. I am speechless.

Another quick update
Been a busy boy today.
Laid under 2.5 goals in the Manchester Derby when City took the lead, kissed that money goodbye.
Laid Kaymer in the golf to get my stake on him and Dyson back, looks like a good job too. He is in the process of throwing it away, got a few quid profit still if he wins - but looks doubtful now.
Main bet of the day coming up - Liverpool to beat Chelsea. Should hopefully be a great game, but we'll see.
Wife and kids off tomorrow for 5 days, should give me more time to update on my money management and also some longer term markets I have been looking at.
Hope you are all having a good day.
No time to post P&L for yesterday at the moment, but I'll update in the morning with all of the details.

Didn't lay off the Dyson bet so it looks like I am on him for the weekend.
No other bets today.
Got a ticket for Reading v Everton tomorrow, might go might not. If I do updates tomorrow might be a bit hazy.
Gave a mate of mine Jon this blog address, he is a season ticket holder at the Madjeski - If you read this Jon give me a shout tomorrow and I'll buy you a beer if I go.

Good Luck tomorrow all.Scandinavian Masters
Decided to have a little punt on Simon Dyson in ther golf. Played well yesterday before leaking a few shots coming home. If he can get off to a decent start this afternoon, should be able to lay off for a decent profit. We'll see how it goes.
Quiet day yesterday just had a few quid on a few horses, wasn't going all that well for a while but finished with a profit so can't complain.
Newbury on this afternoon, but apart from this and the Golf, not really anything up my street to be honest.
Might wait for tomorrow to have a proper look.

Thursday
Yesterday was OK. Only got involved with a couple of horses and also the football in the end.
Chelsea won me money (Laid Reading when they went a goal up), but Man Utd cost me money (Laid the draw when it went 1-1), so overall a losing session but not too bad.
As an aside I notice Man Utd are really starting to drift for the Premiership title, if they continue to do so I may have a few quid on, even though I can't stand them ;-)
The horses saved me yet again, had 2 bets, both of which won. This blogging is making me much more disciplined. (I know what you are thinking, this bloke must have been a Punting machine before this - to be fair I was).
I have been doing some thinking around the target I have set myself and also my money management per event and will try to post later my conclusions.
Golf on today, both European and US, no strong thoughts at the moment, but again will update later if I get involved.
Good Luck

Oh Well.............
Another disaster last night, this time on the football. At least I didn't chase when it became clear things were going wrong.
On the positive side I am still in profit for the month, and in an ideal world I would like to keep it like that.
Lots of football on later, some semi-decent horse racing and of course my real nemisis Cricket. May get involved in all of them to some degree (Maybe not horses because of the recent rain, we'll see).
I hope you were all on Everton last night, if you were, any chance of my money back ;-)

Here we go again...........
In a mess now on the Spurs game. Should have just put my feet up tonight I think.
An early goal for Spurs in the second half and I can get out of trouble. To be honest still fancy them to get a draw at least out of this though.
If Everton throw it away in the second half, we'll be sitting pretty.
Note to self: Don't bet on football for the first couple of weeks in the season............ Yeah right ;-))

A long day...................
Travelled up the Big Smoke for a work meeting today, what a complete waste of time as per usual. I really must look at getting myself a new job in the not too distant future.
Daughter's away at ther moment with the Grandparents which is nice. She's only been gone since yesterday morning, but I must admit I am missing her like crazy already - thankfully she is due home tomorrow evening.
Not had a bet today, and to be honest will only be having one tonight. After the shocking performance of Spurs on Saturday, I am going to give them a nother chance to earn me some money. Just feel they will be very fired up for this one, and may have too much for a workmanlike Everton side.
Again I will probably lay my stake back when/if they take the lead.
Yesterday turned in to the disaster I was expecting. Maybe I need to steer clear of the cricket for a while. Saw a bit of action on the horses but nothing to help out the P&L.
If you have a bet today, good luck, as long as it is not on Everton ;-))

Update
Golf finished up OK yesterday, would have been better if Ernie could have sneaked it, much better, but still no complaints from me.
Not had a bet today thus far, may have a look at Windsor tonight but not sure, I have a more pressing problem.
The cricket. This is not looking good at the moment. By blindly laying the draw most of the way through this test I am now in an awful position and looking at a significant loss (circa £500). I need quick wickets after tea or Kevin Pieterson to smash 100 runs off 40 balls or I am going to be in a position of no return. I guess them are the breaks.
I have had a good run over the last few days, and guess I was due one of these sooner or later. I can't get my head round the cricket for love nor money. Don't think I factored in the fact that India did not have to win this game enough in my punting.
Anyway P&L for yesterday:
Golf: GBP240.76 Total P&L: GBP240.76

Update
Not had a bet today apart from laying the draw again in the cricket.......................... I give up with the reasoning, I'm struggling to convince myself now ;-)
Also I have laid Tiger Woods big on the off chance, and also backed Ernie Els with a view to trade. Still going to make a tidy profit if Woods wins, but thought it would add some spice.
Hope you have all had a good day.

Sunday
Sorry for the late post, all morning at the parent's house. Like to see them at least once a week and it's nice for the other half to have a bit of peace for a while too ;-))
Still working on the cricket as we speak, missed the opportunity this morning to get rid of the huge green on England, and balance the book a bit. Never mind family has to come first. Still looking at a largish red on the draw, need to try and work on that this afternoon. Come on England a few more quick wickets and we may have a shout.
Have levelled out on the golf for a decent profit, which I guess will come through tomorrow as I am not plannning on being awake at 1-00 tomorrow morning.
Plenty of Football on this afternoon, but not sure I will be having a bet, can't see Chelsea or Man Utd failing to win, and it is not my style lumping on short prices. If I had to lay one of them though it would be Chelsea - Sorry 'The Gambler' ;-)
Maybe have a look at the horses, where I have been doing well lately. We'll see how we go.

Football
Laid the draw in the Sunderland game just in time, so no damage done. Would have been good if Spurs could have won it though.
Still unsure about the cricket so I am doing nothing at the moment, India are by far the most likely winners, just not convinced about how hard they will try for it.
Going to have a decent bet on Liverpool in the game tonight, will lay the stake back if they take the lead at any point. Just so you know if Aston Villa take the lead I will lay them to save my stake on the game if it ends in a draw.
Have laid my stake on Tiger, so I still want him to run away from this field.
Horses are going Ok today too, as you will see form the update later/in the morning.
Good luck if you have a bet this afternoon.

Laying Sunderland
Can't see Sunderland winning this opening game, hence laying them accordingly. To be honest can't believe their price, thought they would be 3.5 at least.
Saturday - Start of the Football Season
Good Day Yesterday. Just one of those days when most things seemed to go right.
Had a few winners in the horse racing, 2 of which were posted up prior to the race. Not really something I am going to make a habit of doing, but didn't think it would hurt last night. Please be aware my punting is based on my own decisions, no inside information, so if I do post up selections you follow them at your own risk.
Lucky I changed my postion on the golf, again as posted. I can now lay off my bet on Tiger to guarantee a profit on the event. But I am unsure at this moment whether to, as I really can't see anyone catching him from here. I may just lay the stake back rather than going green across the board.
The cricket is tougher, England as far as I am concerned are now out of it, so I am banking on India taking 19 wickets in 3 days, England failing to reach the follow on target and India enforcing the follow on.
I think I may let my lay of the draw ride until Lunch at least- the problem is this price is going to plummet if there are no wickets this morning. However the England price should come in a bit too if the runs are scored quickly meaning I could lay the green on England. I may have a speculative £10 on England at the current price so I have got a big enough green to lay against if the situation arises. Call it an Insurance policy ;-)
At the moment I could trade out for a small loss, but my gambling instincts are making me go for it - probably a mistake but we'll see. As patriotic as I am, I will be cheering every wicket this morning.
Hope the above makes sense to someone.
I'll try to update later on the Football and how my cricket position is looking. But good luck if you are playing today.
Profit from yesterday:

Update on the Cricket
I know you are all going to think I am mad, but I have laid the draw again. I am now looking at a large red number against this result. England, I feel, are going to have to chase these runs down quickly to have any chance, which should mean either wickets or England's price coming down. Obviously I need them to knock over the remaining Indian wickets first (For less than 500).
In the last few overs before lunch, the pitch is turning, so I still feel there is likely to be a result one way or another.
I am going to leave my position as it is and have another look at Tea. I could be in a huge hole by then...............................

Friday
Yesterday was not too bad a day all round really.
The golf went OK, had a little trade on Mickelson as well as the lay of Tiger Woods, I have now got a green book apart from Tiger who I have at no loss. Will probably trade some more later on this event, and will try to update when I do.
As per usual the cricket has gone a bit pear shaped. My lay of the draw is not looking great, but I still feel (not the general view I know) that this is not the likeliest result. I have increased my green on England at some double digit prices, so I for one could do with some early wickets this morning.
Had a little dabble on the horses yesterday too, results below.
I've cancelled my bet on Torres as the price is now below what I consider value, I am going to try to get on early in the season at odds of 5.5. Let's just hope he doesn't get a hatrick on Saturday ;-))
I'll try to update if I change any of the positions above during the course of the day. Good Luck.

Update
This cricket is no good for my health.
Built up a solid green on Middlesex, but for once in my life played safe and greened out for a profit either way - boy am I glad I did, couldn't have taken the kicking again.
Upset to see you miserable lot haven't laid my £55 on Torres ;-) I'll give you until the morning then I may need to re-evaluate.
Tomorrow is when the real fun starts. 3rd Test and US Golf. Can't wait.

Wednesday
Cricket went pear shaped again last night. Had built a nice position on Derbyshire as the Leics wickets started to tumble, and to be honest even with Snape at the crease couldn't see how Leics could win.
Enter Jerome Taylor stage left, I thought he was supposed to be a bowler ;-) should have laid at least my stake back when he hit the first six, but again greed got the better of me as I was looking to cancel out the red I have on Cricket since the start of August. Hopefully this result will make me learn the hard way.
Anyway the rest is history as Snape hit the winning runs with a couple of balls to spare.
Onwards and upwards hopefully. At least I am still in profit this month.
On to the US Golf, although i think Tiger Woods is by far the most likely winner of the USPGA, I just can't be having him at that price. His course form is patchy to say the least. Hence I have laid at 3.2 with the view to backing him back later in the tournament. Will try to provide updates on this along the way.
In the third test between England and India. I am laying the draw. For the first time in this series, I don't see the weather being much of a factor and also England need to try and force a result being 1-0 down. Again I am hopefull I will be able to trade out of this poition at some point over the 5 days.
With the football season due to start on Saturday I have also looked at a couple of longer term bets, updates prior to the start of the season. The main one I am looking at currently though is Torres to be in the top 4 Premiership goalscorers. If anyone wants to lay my 5.5 on Betfair I would appreciate it ;-))
Today could be a quiet day on the betting front - May have a look at the Yorks v Middlesex game later if I want to throw some more money away, and some horses, but I really want to keep my powder dry for the next 4/5 days.
If you have a bet today. Good Luck.

Tuesday
Ok, today I am going to concentrate on the cricket. Derbyshire v Leicestershire.
Yesterday I had a good day overall, but completely lost my discipline on the cricket despite calling the game right for large parts. Basically I was looking for the elusive big win, and as is usual when you do this you can end up with the big loss.
I am giving the horses a miss in the main, so I can concentrate fully.
While Leicestershire look stronger today, they are playing away from home, and don't feel they justify their current price, hence I am going to lay them as a starting point and see where we go from there.
Good luck if you are playing on the game, if yesterday is anything to go by, I'll probably be contributing to you profits ;-)

Because I am fickle and have had a great day on the horses........ more to follow later.......... On Glocs now.
Call me mad...............
And you would be right, but I still fancy Sussex to win tonight............ You can all laugh at me later.
Silca on the drift, not a good sign, but I am sticking with it.

Only really fancy one tonight at Windsor - Silca Destination - Not a confident selection because of the newcomers, but think it could go well.
Backed Sussex in the Cricket, we'll see how that plays out.
Good Luck.

End of a long weekend.....................
Wow, was it hot today or what !!!!!!!! Well at least it was in Reading.
Decided against the lay of Hamilton in the Grand Prix (Good job too), glad he won will hopefully get him back on track. Should be interesting seeing what happens between him and Alonso over the next couple of races.
Decided to set up an early lay of Man Utd in the Charity Shield, knew I couldn't trade the game so had to let it ride. Not many people more pleased than me when the equaliser went in.
Really looking forward to the footy this season. If Liverpool get off to a faster start this year think it could be a cracker.
Profit from the golf came through today too, so all in all, a quiet, but successful end to the weekend.
Haven't really looked to see what's happening tomorrow on the sporting front, but normally like to back a few at Windsor, if I fancy anything I'll let you know tomorrow.
Have a good week and speak to you tomorrow. Need my beauty sleep now ;-))

Update
Mixed day yesterday, my fancy of Lancashire was obviously miguided. They seemed to have the team on paper to walk the 20/20, just couldn't put it in to practice. Got home just in time to trade the end of the final, wish I hadn't. Got with Gloucestershire which seemed a good move right until the last over, when fair play to Kent they battered the required runs.
Horses almost saved me yesterday, but not quite. Thought Peeping Fawn looked very impressive.
On the positive side I have built a nice position on the US Golf, so we'll see how that plays out this evening.
Another BBQ this afternoon might mean it could be quite a slow day today. I'm tempted to lay Lewis Hamilton in the Formula 1 after his recent run, but am undecided as yet.
Good Luck today.

Horses
Only really fancy 1 today, Peeping Fawn, 3.20 Goodwood. Feel it will improve for ground conditions today.
Got Lancashire on side in the 20/20, no real damage if they lose, but feel they have got the runs on the board, and with their bowling line up, should give Glos a few problems. Also playing Lancs in the outright market.
Gone in again on Tiger in the US golf, think the history with Sabbatini may be all the motivation he needs tonight.
Good luck this afternoon. Maybe update later.

The head hurts........
Finally got back from the pub about 10-00 last night, I've got to remember I am not getting any younger. Problem is, I have got a barbecue to attend this afternoon and also one tomorrow afternoon. I think by Monday I may need a new Liver.
This hot weather is lovely, but I think everyone is catching up on the barbecues they wanted to have when it wouldn't stop raining. It's going to play havoc with my Punting/Trading.
Anyway an update from yeterday:
Horse Racing: GBP81.88 Total P&L: GBP81.88
(For clarification this is a daily profit update, overall results can be found by clicking 'My Results' on the right hand side of the screen)
Another dent in the initial loss, and again more discipline stopping while in front. (Well it is difficult to Punt/Trade from the Pub Garden ;-))
Was hoping to really get stuck in to the Cricket today, but looks like I may be able to do the first match only now. Never mind, will probably stop me giving all of my money to one of the guys linked on the right hand side of the screen.
Will have a look at the racing in a minute and maybe post some selections, if anyone is silly enough to want to follow them.
Good luck today.

Today
Ok am looking closely at Goodwood today, and to be honest it's tough. I fancy 3, but will probably have a play in the other races too.
3.30 Third Set
4.05 One Great Cat
4.40 Shifting Star
Aside from that will have another look at the US Golf later on, can't see beyond Tiger myself.
Twenty 20 Finals day tomorrow with a good weather forecast too, hopefully should be some opportunities there. Will say more about this in the morning.
I'll probably be in the pub garden from about 4-00 so any update later may be a bit scrambled ;-)

After Wednesday's less than auspicious start, at least we are going in the right direction now. I have also got some profit locked in on the US Golf but this won't hit the figures until Sunday's update as long as I don't lose it in the interim :-)
As an aside for anyone reading who doesn't detail their results - do. I know I have only been doing this a couple of days, but normally I would have gambled these small wins trying to turn them in to big ones, especailly with my loss the day before. The thought of having to post another loss however, made me think twice.
Also by levelling out for a profit on the cricket, as much as I love watching sport, I didn't have to sit and watch it until the end.

Not repeating the same mistake
Locked in a profit on the Essex v Worcs game, will win whichever way it goes now.
Goodwood & US Golf
Looking at both of these events.
Again I have a main bet at Goodwood which is Geordieland, let's hope it does a bit better than yesterday's. Will probably do some of the other races too, but don't really fancy too much to be honest.
In the Golf I am going to have 2 main bets, and will trade through the event too. Tiger Woods (No reasoning needed), and also Sergio Garcia because I think he may get off to a fast start this week, I'll be laying appropriately if he does after last week.
Will try to update later with my progress, and if you have a bet today, good luck.

Had a nightmare day on the horses as you will see. On the cricket, started with the correct bet, but decided early on the Notts were going to post a decent total and the market had it wrong, so I laid my profit (and more) and put it on to Notts. Didn't trade out for a profit either way as I got greedy (mistake number 1).
Not a very auspicious start. Will have to improve tomorrow. Good Luck.
Here we go.............
Here we go then, taking my fist steps in to detailing exactly what I am doing.
Today I am going to concentrate on the Horse Racing and also the Hampshire v Nottinghamshire cricket.
Goodwood is one of my favourite meetings of the year, used to go on a regular basis prior to the kids coming along, but these days I am just an armchair viewer.
Quite like the look of a few today including Asiatic Boy which will be my main bet of the day.
In the cricket I am going to start with a back of Hampshire, but will trade throughout the game, so we will see where we end up.
Wife and kids are going out for the day, so I should have a chance at a decent day’s trading/punting.
Good luck if you are having a bet.

Introduction
I am a 37 year old man with 2 kids (6 years, girl and 9 months, boy) and a partner of god knows how many years. Live in a reasonable part of Reading with all the mod cons a person like me could wish for. However I have a big vice – I love a punt. I have always been sporty, but as the years have passed I have moved from playing all kind of sport to punting on it. Hasn’t got me in to trouble as yet, but I have this feeling nagging away in side of me that if I don’t get a grip soon it will.
1st August 2007 is D-Day, I am going to start making this pay. No more betting on every race just for the thrill, no more betting on any event that takes my fancy, no more Poker when I am bored. I am going to become selective and detail on a daily basis exactly what I am up to. I think this will make me think twice about what I am doing. When I look through my history for the last 3 months, I could have made so much more profit just by sticking to strong fancies and trading, rather than the scatter gun approach I have taken up to now.
I have a target of £25k profit by 31st December 2008, and will document (with Screenshots), on a daily basis, details of my profit and loss.
I am also going to provide a diary of my life outside of Gambling as I grow with my young family, as I am hoping not every day is going to be taken up with Punting, and to be honest I hate my current job and would love to find an alternative way of providing an Income.
My weapon of choice for this venture is Betfair mainly, but I will be using other Bookmakers when the opportunity arises.
